Myles Stephens scored 21 points and crossed the 1,000 point career mark in an overpowering Princeton win against Division III DeSales 85-51 on Friday night.

Freshman Drew Friberg chipped in 13 and Richmond Aririguzoh scored 10 points for Princeton, who lead throughout and was simply the bigger, better team all night.

The Tigers dominated on the boards with a +20 advantage (52-32) and got better shots throughout the game with their advantage in athleticism and length.

Princeton opened their season up without senior leader Devin Cannady and highly-touted freshman Jaelin Llewellyn, both of whom were in street clothes. Llewellyn is on crutches but head coach Mitch Henderson said he hopes to have both guards back within the week.

Missing two of their core pieces did not bother the Tigers in this match-up where they got to get extended looks at players who will be a part of their rotation like Ethan Wright and Jerome Desrosiers who added another nine points each.

Stephens became the 35th Tiger to reach 1,000 points, and was able to make it special by reaching the mark at home in front of family and friends.

“Putting in work for four years and its finally paying off,” Stephens said post-game. “But the big thing is it’s out the way, we got 1,000, and now we’re looking forward to Lehigh on Friday.

It is a focused answer from the senior Stephens, who knows all too well the ups and downs after going from Ivy League winner in his sophomore year to out of the Ivy League tournament in last year’s campaign.

Princeton will get a week off before being tested against Lehigh, who bested the Tigers by 9 in last season’s meeting.
