Date of Birth: May 29th, 1998

Position: Point Guard

College: Washington

Measurements: 6’4, 195 lbs

Strengths:

Markelle Fultz is a one of a kind type player. He’s a transcendent guard who has the talent and skills that we haven’t seen at the point guard position for someone at his age in quite some time. He is a terrific athlete, scorer, and shooter. He has all of the tools to become a great player at the next level.

Watch this one play here where he splits the two initial defenders, spins off another defender, and then adjusts his body in the air to finish the bucket:

The first thing you notice when watching Fultz is the speed at which he is operating at. He just brings this smoothness and jazz to his game that leaves you in awe. It doesn’t even seem like he is going at 100%!!! Some say that this is a weakness of his, that he doesn’t always try. I see this as a strength as we still haven’t seen the best of Markelle Fultz yet.

Fultz has a great jump shot. He shot 41% from deep this season as well as 44% on 2-point jumpers. Markelle is ready to take it to the next level and has all of the skill-sets needed to become a top tier point guard in the NBA.

Weaknesses:

Many people consider his ‘lack of effort’ one of his major weaknesses. Like I’ve said, I don’t really see that as much of an issue. According to the eye test, in my opinion, there aren’t many glaring weaknesses.

Statistically, the main weaknesses in his game are his free throw shooting and finishing. This season he shot 64% from the line and finished 61% of his shots at the rim. 61% FG% at the rim isn’t that bad, but when the person projected to be selected behind you (Lonzo Ball) has a FG% at the rim that is 20 percentage points better, that can be seen as a weakness.

Risks:

The only major risk in drafting Fultz is his inability to win at the college level. Washington was just awful this year, finishing with a record of 9-22, which was good for 2nd to last in the Pac 12. Will he be able to carry a team in the NBA when he wasn’t able to carry one in college? We will see.

Interesting Stat:

Markelle Fultz is the only player in the last 25 years to average 23 PPG, 5.5 APG, and 5.5 RPG in a single college season.

Comparison:

N/A

It’s just too hard and would be unfair to supply Fultz with a player comparison. He has such a variety of moves that he has taken from various pro players. Can split defenders with speed like Russ, spin off defenders like Wall, and can shoot about as well as CP3. He’s the best player in this draft and is prepared to do special things in the NBA.

Draft Prediction:

#1 Overall
