Last week, Los Angeles Lakers forward, LeBron James and his  LeBron James Family Foundation launched the “I Promise” school in conjunction with Akron, Ohio’s Public School System.

While many cheered last week’s announcement, the narrative began to shift when James told CNN’s Don Lemon that “he wouldn’t sit across” from U.S. President Donald Trump. President Trump fired back in a tweet over the weekend, stating: “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!”

Well, the weekend is over, President Trump still has his supporters as does  LeBron James. One of James’ biggest advocates?

Actor/rapper and Big 3 co-founder, Ice Cube.  “A lot of people put pressure on athletes or entertainers and some of them don’t put the same pressure on themselves to give back,” Ice Cube told me earlier  today during the Big 3’s conference call.

“Everybody can give back in their way.”

James’ “IPromise” school provides students with a ton of awesome perks. The school provides free tuition, free uniforms, free breakfast, lunch and snacks. Additionally, the school offers free transportation within 2 miles, a free bicycle and helmet. Access to a food pantry for their family is also an option

But, the coup de grâce? Guaranteed tuition for all graduates to the University of Akron.

“Whenever you can reach back, give a little time, or even sometimes just show a great example, it’s nothing bad in that,” said Ice Cube.

“So as an athlete that has a platform, who’s using it I think LeBron is doing a great job.”

Basketball Society’s Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson suggest U.S. President Donald Trump attends “I Promise” school.

Graduation day for students who attend “I Promise,” will surely ‘be a good day!’

“What’s cool about the whole thing is it’s really his prerogative to do so or not,” said Ice Cube.

“A lot of people put pressure on athletes or entertainers and some of them don’t put the same pressure on themselves to give back because everybody can give back in their way.”

Students enrolled in the “I Promise” school also receive access to job placement services and are assisted in acquiring their GEDs. “It’s cool that he’s doing it,” said Ice Cube.

“He’s doing it just out of love and that’s great and it’s nothing wrong with that.”
