i-3Xavier Henry will miss the rest of the season.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been swimming in a pool of misery ever since the summer, when they missed out on superstars LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, and acquired Jeremy Lin and Carlos Boozer as constellation prizes. After starting the season 3-11 and losing both Steve Nash and rookie Julius Randle for the season, it appeared as if the Lakers were not only swimming in that pool of misery, but drowning rather quickly.

Although it seemed to be impossible, the Lakers ship sank to lower heights on Monday afternoon, when they learned that they have lost swingman Xavier Henry for the season to a ruptured left Achilles. Henry suffered the injury at practice, and immediately underwent and MRI, confirming the horrible news.

Henry, the third Laker player lost for the season, is scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday morning.

Henry, who has battled knee problems the last two seasons, appeared in nine games with the Lakers this season. He averaged 2.2 points a contest.

It is expected that Los Angeles will apply for a hardship exception from the NBA, allowing them to add a 16th player to their roster, one more than the league typically allows. Ryan Kelly, who is currently sidelined indefinitely with a hamstring tear, would force the Lakers to trim their roster to 15 upon his return.
