NBA: Milwaukee Bucks at Orlando MagicRonnie Price hopes to make the Lakers roster as a backup point guard.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Lakers announced the signing of free agent point guard Ronnie Price. Sam Amick of USA Today reports that Price’s deal is for one year at the veterans minimum.

The 31-year-old Price will provide Los Angeles with insurance at the point guard position. He will sit behind Steve Nash and Jeremy Lin on the depth chart, but Nash’s inability to stay healthy may open up a window of opportunity for the 9 year veteran. Recent reports indicate that Nash’s nerve issues have improved over the summer months, but it will be interesting to see how Nash’s body responds to the rigorous NBA schedule. Price may battle rookie Jordan Clarkson for minutes as well.

The Lakers are Price’s sixth team in 10 years, and it’s the fourth straight year he will be joining a new club. Price appeared in 31 games last year for the Orlando Magic, averaging 2.4 points and 2.1 assists per game. In addition to Orlando, Price has played for the Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns and Portland Trailblazers. Price played with Lakers power forward Carlos Boozer in Utah from 2007-2010.

Ronnie Price averages 3.4 points and 1.5 assists per game for his career.
