The pre-season for the NBA is here, but the Los Angeles Lakers don’t hit the floor until Sunday when they square against the Denver Nuggets. That leaves Lakers Lair hosts BJ Boyer and Randy King to fill that void of Lakers action and analyze and express their thoughts on the latest Lakers news.

Before practice could start for the Lakers this week, they had to tread the waters that is Media Day, which Luke Walton referred to as “the feeling of being a kid, the night before Christmas, and you can’t really sleep.”

A lot of hype and questions revolving around the Lakers are answered on this day. What’s the status of Lonzo Ball’s knee? Which young player had the best summer? Michael Beasley, however, was Michael Beasley.

On a serious note, while every player did receive a fair share of photographs and questions thrown at them, no voice spoke louder than LeBron James’.

Brutally honest. James knows that the Lakers have a long way to go until they reach the level they want to and even Walton referred several times to ‘starting from scratch’. With that said, what were some of the takeaways that came out of media day?

“The biggest takeaway that I got out of media day was Walton naming Rondo the starter. The young players are just using the resources that are available to them, with Rondo taking Kuzma under his wing and watching film with him and then having Kuzma text him after watching the practice asking ‘is this what you meant’.” – Randy King

After discussing the storylines that came out of media day, both Boyer and King talked about what LeBron would have to do to garner MVP considerations over some of the potential front-runners for the award.

“The Lakers would have to finish as a top-four seed for him (LeBron) to be considered in the top three, just based off the talent that is in the NBA right now. How you’re team ends up, dictates the MVP.” – Randy King

So who is his competition:

“My favorite as of right now is Anthony Davis. I think he is prime position to make a run for the award. Kawhi is a legitimate MVP candidate if he’s healthy.” – BJ Boyer

As fun as it was talking about LeBron and I truly believe that both hosts could do that for the entire episode, they wanted to discuss the Lakers second-round pick Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk. Both had several nice things to say about the young Ukranian sharpshooter out of Kansas, but I’ll just leave you with these videos to let you ponder what they talked about.

Also, he was doing it in the Summer League too.

Several more areas of discussion about the purple and gold lye within the episode, so please feel free to relax, grab a seat, and enjoy another evening inside the Lakers Lair. Enjoy episode four!
