Kobe Bryant says "you're crazy" if you think he wants to shoot this much

i-1Kobe Bryant isn’t happy that he has to shoot 20+ times a game.

After the Golden State Warriors put a 136-115 spanking on the Los Angeles Lakers, a game in which Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant finished with 44 points through three quarters (on 15-of-34 shooting,) Bryant discussed his shot-happy tendencies with reports. Here’s what the 2008 MVP told Janis Carr of the Orange County Register:

I’m more than willing to sit back. If you think I want to shoot this many times and be as aggressive at 36 years old, you’re freaking crazy.

Bryant also spoke to Baxter Holmes of ESPNLosAngeles.com after the embarrassing loss.

Obviously I’d rather get guys involved early, but if a purse gets stolen in front of you, how many blocks are you going to let the guy run?

I’d always rather get guys involved and play. That’s always the intent at the start of the ball game. But [when] you’re 10, 12 points in the hole, I’ve got to try to keep us in the ball game at some point. But it’s tough. It’s tough.

This responsibility, it’s on me. When things go good, it’s us. When things go bad, it’s me.

I’d rather not have to do that, but you can’t just sit back and watch crime happen in front of you.

Lakers head coach Byron Scott stated that Bryant’s high level of aggression can be described as a “double-edged sword,” and that it is up to Los Angeles to find that “happy medium.”

Kobe Bryant is currently first in scoring (27.3 points per game,) but is shooting an abysmal 37.7% from the field. Out of all the players in the top 5 in scoring (LeBron James, James Harden, Stephen Curry and Anthony Davis) Bryant has taken the most field goal attempts (244.) The other four players have yet to take 200 shots or more.

Bryant has also attempted 75 more shots than Jeremy Lin, Ronnie Price and Jordan Clarkson have combined. It’s evident that Bryant doesn’t trust his teammates, and his number of shot attempts illustrates this notion perfectly. The Lakers are currently 1-9, and are staring down the barrel of a three game road trip that includes stops in Atlanta, Houston and Dallas.

Here’s how lifelong Lakers fan Jack Nicholson feels about this whole situation.
