A coach can always say he wants to stay, but if money and the best jobs are available, it’s tough for young coaches to say no. Coaches in the past have said they would stay at their existing program, then ultimately left because the job was too great to pass up.

Kevin Ollie has made it clear that he won’t be leaving the University of Connecticut anytime soon. Soon after Scott Brooks was fired from the Oklahoma City Thunder, Ollie’s name was soon thrown into the mix as the Thunder’s next coach. It didn’t seem too outrageous to think that Ollie would want the job. He played for the Thunder at the end of his career and has a great relationship with Kevin Durant.

ESPN’s Andy Katz reported Thursday that Ollie plans to keep his job in Connecticut,

“UConn men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie has told those close to him on campus that he is staying at the school despite the current vacancy with the Oklahoma City Thunder, sources told ESPN’s Andy Katz on Thursday.”

One name to keep in mind and considered to be a frontrunner is the head coach of Florida, Billy Donovan. Donovan has had great success at Florida winning multiple national championships, and I think he would have an easy transition into the NBA. The Thunder should still be patient with the process and see who else comes into the picture with more NBA experience.
