Kevin Love

Kevin Love is returning tonight for the Cleveland Cavaliers as they host the Brooklyn Nets. Love just admitted to have been dealing with back spasms since November, but his two game absence had nothing to do with his back.

On Wednesday, Love said “Coach (David Blatt) had approached me. I was playing heavy minutes and he came to me and asked if I’d sit a game or two and that’s all it was.” Ironically, Kevin Love is on pace to play a career low in minutes. If rest is what it takes to get healthy, Love will rest to get ready for the playoffs. Kevin Love has never been to the playoffs before.

In five games this season when Love is out of the line-up, the Cavaliers are 2-3. In 64 games this season, Kevin Love is averaging 16.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Both numbers are less then his career averages. In the month of March, Love is only averaging 15.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. March has been the worst month of his season so far.

Kevin Love will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and his future is up in the air. Love is expecting a max level contract and teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, and New York Knicks have the cap space to offer him one. This is the time of the season where Kevin Love needs to prove he can win in the NBA. Teammate LeBron James is the perfect person to learn from on how to win in the playoffs. Injured or not, Kevin Love needs to toughen up and be stellar before this offseason.
