Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani may be on way out of New York, Stoudemire to stay

Injuries and a bad combination of talent have brought the New York Knicks to their worst start in franchise history. Phil Jackson has ended all hopes for the season by trading away Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the team has discussed shutting down superstar Carmelo Anthony for the season due to a lingering knee injury.

It appears as if Phil Jackson isn’t done making changes to the Knicks roster as Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani are now on the trading block. Marc Stein and Ian Begley of ESPN.com have more:

The New York Knicks are actively tryi‎ng to trade veterans Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani as part of their ongoing roster clearout, according to league sources.

But sources stressed to ESPN.com that trying to trade away Amar’e Stoudemire is not part of the club’s current plans.

Knicks president Phil Jackson, in publicly taking the blame for the team’s dreadful record under rookie coach Derek Fisher, said Saturday that “no one should be surprised” if the club continues to reshape its roster through deals prior to the Feb. 19 trade deadline.

But ‎sources maintain that the Knicks are not looking to move Stoudemire and, at least for now, intend to keep him for the rest of the season. That could theoretically lead to Stoudemire — who has relished his time with the Knicks despite the club’s struggles — re-signing with them over the summer at a reduced rate.

Bargnani seems like a tough guy to trade. He has barely played this season, and has an expiring contract of $11.5 million. Calderon is a knock down three-point shooter when healthy, and may prove to be a serviceable point guard for many teams.

Stoudemire is an interesting player to trade because of a contract that pays him more than $23 million a year, but he would also bring in assets in returns.
