After languishing on the bench in Oklahoma City for the first three years of his career, Jeremy Lamb was dealt to the Charlotte Hornets this past summer, marking the reunion of Lamb and his former University of Connecticut running mate Kemba Walker.

Lamb, who was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, has at times during the preseason and his first two games of the season shown why he was a lottery pick during his time with the Hornets, and according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, Charlotte hopes Lamb can parlay these small sample sizes into a career as a solid scorer.

Many consider this to be another asinine move from Michael Jordan and the Hornets’ brass, but with the cap projected to rise astronomically next summer, this may be considered a bargain deal if Lamb can maximize his potential.

Lamb is only 23-years-old, and has played well in his two games with Charlotte this season, averaging 10 points per game on 42% shooting. What must have Hornets head coach Steve Clifford aroused though is the fact that Lamb is currently shooting 44% from downtown, as they’re looking to inject a healthy dose of shooting in their brittle offensive bones.

Is $7 million hefty for a guy who’s career-high in points per game is 8.5? Sure, but we’ve seen Lamb play so sparingly that it’s tough to gauge what type of impact he can truly have on a team. If he’s able to reach his expected ceiling, we’ll celebrate the Hornets for this deal later on. If not, add it to the list of head-scratching moves that have been made during Jordan’s tenure as owner.
