League sources told Scoop B Radio  earlier this week that the 76ers have grown more interested in Crawford’s services after Sixers rookie, Zhaire Smith suffered a Jones fracture at a developmental camp in Las Vegas.

Zaire Smith is out…I’m told Sixers are now more interested in Jamal Crawford. There’s familiarity with JJ Redick after all.

Crawford, a 19-year NBA vet opted out of the second year of his two-year contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, which he signed last summer.

At 38 years old, Crawford not only provides strong veteran leadership for a young Sixers team, he can score. Crawford want to be in the City of Brotherly Love because he respects the 76ers’ head coach. “I’ve always loved coach Brett Brown,” Jamal Crawford told me today on the Scoop B Radio Podcast.

“I’ve been on record. I’ve been a fan of his for years. He just needed talent, and now he has that.”

Crawford also indicated that he’s a fan of the Sixers’ point guard Ben Simmons. “I love his game,” said Crawford.

“You can tell, watching him play, he doesn’t play with an agenda,” he said.

“You know, a lot of young guys try to establish themselves first. It looks like he’s just trying to win, whatever that is.  He may get you 25 points, he may get you 10 assists, he may even get 18 rebounds. It’s just about winning that particular game.  I love how he plays the game. He’s very cerebral, always looking for his teammates and looking for the advantage down court, so that’s what I love about him.”

He likes Sixers big man, Joel Embiid:

“I love Jojo [Joel Embiid],” said Crawford.

He’s also close with Markelle Fultz and J.J. Redick.  “Markelle is like a little brother to me,” said Crawford.

“Obviously, he went to the University of Washington, and we talk every other day. J.J. Redick is like a brother to me, we’ve been through wars together, so there’s so many things to love about Philadelphia for sure.”

Crawford didn’t stop there. He said he loves the city of Philly.

“I like their city,” he said.

“I like how into it they are about basketball. I like their knowledge of basketball, how passionate they are.”

Drafted out of Michigan in the 2000 NBA Draft, Crawford is revered for his smooth ball handling ability and crafty scoring. That combo has won him three NBA Sixth Man of The Year awards.

According to The Ringer, Crawford is  ranked third in the top six remaining free agents in the NBA and should still be good to average double-digit points — he hasn’t averaged fewer than 10 since his sophomore season, in 2001–02 .
