Before facing the Utah Jazz last night, the fans of the Boston Celtics were cheering for opposing player, Gordon Hayward. There have been previous rumors of Hayward signing with Boston especially with the connection to Celtics coach, Brad Stevens.

As the cheers reigned in, Jae Crowder took exception. Although he used it as motivation to produce a 21 point night on 5/6 shooting from behind the arc, he expressed his anger towards the situation following the game.

Crowder also tweeted towards a couple of fans who called him out on his comments. His tweets hinted at “leaving” and being where he’s “appreciated”.  Obviously Boston fans didn’t like the response by Jae Crowder but they should only be mad at themselves.

Crowder’s anger is justified and he has every right to be upset. When you give your all on a night to night basis to help your team win and give the fans a show, the last thing that a player desires to hear is cheering for the opponent. Especially if they’re cheering for the guy that would replace you. Anyone with a sense of pride and competitiveness would be angered as well and the fans of Boston should understand that.

Players are opposed to fans cheering for guys that they want to join their team. There was a similar situation with the Washington Wizards and Kevin Durant. The fans serenaded him with love, signs, and chants while Durant called the situation disrespectful:

“It was crazy. It was crazy,” Durant recalled Sunday evening. “It was kind of disrespectful, in my opinion, because you’ve got a great team there already, that deserves your full, 100 percent support. And I wouldn’t like that if I was on that team. And I didn’t like that. But it comes with it nowadays. It’s a part of it.”

Even Bradley Beal gave his opinion on the matter agreeing with the disrespectful description given by Kevin Durant.

This is not something that players or opposing players like and the fans should understand that. During free agency, anything goes but during the season, cheering for the opposition is purely unacceptable. They shouldn’t be surprised or upset by Jae Crowder’s response because it was warranted. He was disrespected and the fans of Boston should be ashamed of themselves.
