Horace Grant and his goggles are forever tied to 90s NBA.
Perhaps they were a good luck charm. He won three NBA championships with the Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen-led Chicago Bulls while wearing them.
The ‘94 NBA All Star also won a championship with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal while rocking his Rec Specs.
After years of rocking out with Horace on NBA Jam with he, BJ Armstrong and Pippen, one’s gotta wonder: Horace what’s the deal with the specs?
Where did they come from?
Michael Jordan was “the Devil” in Practice according to Horace Grant via Scoop B Radio.
“Man, from the moon, from the stars,” Horace Grant joked on the Scoop B Radio Podcast.
“They came down and right in front of my locker it said: ‘Horace Grant wear these and you’ll be unique.’ From out of space that’s where I tell people I got them from, from outer space.”
Grant averaged 11 points and 8 rebounds per game during his NBA career with the Bulls, Lakers, Orlando Magic and Seattle Sonics. All joking aside, Grant was advised to wear them by the Bulls coaching staff. “To be honest, I was legally blind,” he said.
“Didn’t know it and my eye doctors from the Bulls said: ‘You know Horace try these goggles.’ From that point on, that particular night the goggles became famous.”
