Eastern Conference

The Eastern Conference starts their rise this coming season. (Check out our writer Aram’s Eastern Conference opinion here) That’s right, I said it, they are on their way to being a strong conference again. The East may have been scraping the bottom of the barrel in the last few seasons, but that means that they’re getting the top prospects out of the draft. Plus, the East has been making moves in free agency and they have been pulling triggers on trades. The Celtics are looking better and better with Brad Stevens at the helm, the Sixers (beyond popular belief) are adding even better pieces, the Magic have a great young core, and there are still the powerhouse teams of the Cavaliers and Bulls. Of course you can’t forget the young gun Wizards, Raptors, Bucks, and then there’s the Spurs style Hawks as well.

When you take a look at each team’s roster, people should start getting scared. Some of these teams have been looking solid already, and then you realize that teams like the Bucks have a core of guys who are all under 25 years old. They have youth, they have talent and the East also has some great coaches that can really teach these guys how to play some great basketball. Jason Kidd, Brad Stevens, Mike Budenholzer, and Brett Brown are just a few names that have been great at player development so far. Give them a few more years and their teams could be really competing for the Eastern Conference Championship.

2008 Boston Celtics

Word around town is that it’s the anniversary of the coming together of the Boston Celtics’ big three in 2008. I still remember hearing the news that Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen were joining forces with Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo in Beantown. I was left speechless because I knew this team was going to be a huge force in the East. Also, I was always a huge fan of Garnett and now he was going to be in the Atlantic, so that meant I got to see him play even more.

Everyone remembers the epic playoff battles they got into with some of the best teams in the East and with the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals. Rajon Rondo was like the underdog hero when he started lighting up the scoreboard with triple-doubles and tremendous hustle plays in the postseason. Add that with the trash talk of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, as well as the calm demeanor of Ray Allen and they made something that was just pure magic. They brought a title to one of the most decorated franchises and they also gave us some big time excitement when they went toe-to-toe with the Kobes and LeBrons of the league.

I’m just glad I got to see this happen because it was a season for the ages. So hopefully all of you Celtics fans celebrate this anniversary accordingly!
