Elena Delle Donne of the Chicago Sky has officially been named the WNBA MVP for the 2015 season.

Coming from the small state of Delaware, Delle Donne carved her own path to the number two pick in the 2013 draft. She turned down playing for the powerhouse UConn in college to be with her sister in Delaware. Then, she played volleyball for a season at the University of Delaware before getting back to the sport she’s known for now. Delle Donne, now 26, was an all-star in each of her first two seasons, but had her 2014 season cut short due to Lyme Disease symptoms and some back issues.

Coming into the 2015 season, Delle Donne was feeling great coming off of a much needed off-season. She was ready to improve on her numbers from the seasons before and she was dialed in on her goal of winning a championship. She increased her averages to 23.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game this year. She boasted a crazy 126 offensive rating and an absurd player efficiency rating of 32.7. Delle Donne also led the league in free throws, points, win shares, 5th in total rebounds, and she even was 3rd in the league in blocks which had to be a direct connection to her volleyball skills.

Now, it’s on to the playoffs for Elena Delle Donne and the Chicago Sky. They grabbed the 2nd seed in the East and will start their quest for the championship against the Indiana Fever on September 17.
