We at Basketball Society were able to catch up with North Carolina Class of 2018 combo guard, Daivien Williamson. Daivien is a 6’1″ 160lbs guard who plays his High School basketball at Winston-Salem Prep and AAU with Team Winston. He is an electric small guard who loves to push the tempo and can score the basketball at will. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina native sat down with us for an interview.

Who do you have offers from at this moment?

Daivien: Georgia Southern, Radford, UNC-Wilmington, Wofford, and Coastal Carolina

Which schools are showing at least medium interest who haven’t offered yet?

Daivien: Cincinnati, Murray State, Charleston Southern, Tennessee Tech, and Furman

Which schools stand out to you right now?

Daivien: To be honest, I’m just taking everything in right now. I don’t necessarily have a favorite at the moment.

In your own words, how has your recruiting process been going?

Daivien: The recruitment process has been very fun and it’s definitely a great experience.

What do you consider your strengths and weaknesses on the court?

Daivien: I feel like my strengths are that I’m a great scorer, I have a good feel for the game, and that I’m a playmaker. My weaknesses are that I need to see the court better and continue to improve defensively.

What player do you compare yourself to and why?

Daivien: John Wall. We both play real fast but under control.

What do you feel like you do differently than anyone else?

Daivien: I read during my off time. I have a 3.8 GPA.

Is there a particular style of basketball you like to play?

Daivien: I like to play up-tempo and fast.

Is staying close to family for college important?

Daivien: No, not really.

How do you see your game translating to the next level?

Daivien: I think it will translate well. It’s going to be a big adjustment, but I feel like I’m ready and prepared.

Any fellow Class of 2018 guys you’d like to play with on the next level?

Daivien: I would love to play with either one of my AAU teammates Anthony Hicks or Justice Goodloe.

Daivien averaged 17 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds his junior year at Winston-Salem Prep. According to NC Preps, he’s the top passer in all of North Carolina. It will be interesting to see how his recruiting pans out. Coastal Carolina and Wofford are his two most recent offers. I think he has many mid-major offers about to come his way. He is the type of kid that will help a mid-major program win a game or two in the NCAA Tournament at the point guard spot. We at Basketball Society will keep you updated with his recruiting process.
