Earlier today the NBA announced that the Charlotte Hornets and the Los Angeles Clippers will play in two exhibition games in China.

Both games are going to be played in the preseason and have set dates. One game will be played on October 11th at the Shenzhen Universiade Center and the second game will take place on October 14th at the Mercedes-Benz Arena located in Shanghai. Not only will they be playing in those games, the teams will also being doing off the court activities and charities to give back to the communities. In a press release about the upcoming opportunity, Michael Jordan, who is the Chairman of the Hornets, had this to say about the event:

“The Charlotte Hornets are excited to play in NBA Global Games China and help grow the NBA’s brand internationally, while showcasing the strength of our franchise and team to millions of Chinese basketball fans.”

This is the first time ever that an NBA game will take place in Shenzhen. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was also at the press release and had this to say about the 2015 Global Games:

“Basketball is more popular than ever, and Global Games China 2015 is part of our ongoing commitment to growing the game in the world’s most populous nation..These games will not only bring the excitement of NBA action directly to Chinese fans, but will also provide the league another opportunity to experience the rich history and culture of China.”

Despite it being a preseason game, it should still be a competitive game to watch. You have the up and coming revamped Charlotte Hornets up against the Los Angeles Clippers who are led by the veteran Chris Paul and high flyer Blake Griffin. The game of basketball has definitely expanded, especially in China in which the NBA is the most popular sports league, and also basketball being the number one sport played there. After the NBA Global Games in China takes place, the NBA will play a total of 20 games, all in the preseason.
