WATCH: Interview with Class of 2022 G Roddy Gayle of WeR1 (PA)
I first met and watched Chance Westry play earlier this year for WeR1 (PA). He leaves an impression with his energy and versatility. Westry is a do-it-all, lengthy guard that makes a variety of winning plays and puts his fingerprints all over basketball games.
He makes his presence felt most strongly on the defensive end, an area of his game that he says he takes pride in. Westry is quick on his feet and active with his hands. He takes pleasure in pestering opponents on the perimeter. He has the quickness and IQ to defend different positions.
Offensively, Chance has a versatile and growing skill set. He runs the floor consistently looking to make a play for himself or someone else. Chance makes good decisions with the ball in his hands as a passer, too. While he plays on the wing for this WeR1 team, his primary position is said to be at point guard. His scoring identity is still maturing but he has the tools to score at all three levels as well as in transition.
Talking with Chance at the Rider Team Camp, he told me about what he’s working on with his game, what he considers to be a “good shot”, how he sees himself as a Tar Heel one day, and more.
