The “one and done” rule has been a long standing issue within the NBA for quite a few years now. The NBA and National Basketball Players Association are still struggling to reach an agreement on lowering the league’s minimum age to 18, in order to eliminate the amount of one and done players in the league. Although many of these athletes are highly coveted as franchise players, NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley views the one and done rule as a negative for the NBA’s overall product.

“I’ve never liked the one and done rule because I feel like it hurts the NBA. These kids are not ready for the NBA”, said Barkley.

Barkley played three seasons at Auburn before being drafted 5th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1984 NBA Draft.

“I mean if you look at the NBA landscape, none of these one and done players have helped these teams in the last three years and it’s hurting our product.”

Does Chuck have a point? I mean if you look at Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball who were the number one and number two overall picks respectively in the 2017 NBA Draft, their rookie campaigns were uhhh … less than advertised to put it gently. However the 76ers and Lakers faithful were expecting them to be the saviors for their franchises.

“I don’t think it’s fair to our fans in the NBA because if you’ve got a bad team, it used to be that you were going to get a player who was going to make your team better right away. Now you’re getting a kid who might be good in three or four years. If I’m a fan I don’t want that. I think they should have to stay for two years”
