The struggling 4-11 Boston Celtics were up by as many as 23 points on the Atlanta Hawks last night before ultimately coughing up a big lead and losing the contest 109-105. This is a perfect example of Boston’s achilles heel this year: failing to hold onto leads for a full 48 minutes.

Kyle Korver was the Hawks leading scorer, finishing the come-from-behind victory with 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field. Despite a strong offensive game from Korver, Evan Turner of the Celtics used the former Creighton star as a model of bad defense when it came to the matchup between the two. After the loss, Turner had this to tell Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe:

“They started pressuring and it’s tough to score when you have two hands inside your jersey as well,” he said. “At the same time, I got a foul call on Korver and they said I pushed him and tripped him and he just fell. He can’t guard to save his life and he’s grabbing Marcus Thornton and he’s grabbing me and he has no business being in the game on the defensive end but what can you possibly do if they’re allowed to have their hands on you?”

Turner and Thornton both combined for to 8-of-14 from the field, so Korvers “fouls” couldn’t have affected either player that much. This just sounds like frustration from Turner.
