New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony suffered a knee injury during Monday night’s 109-95 loss to the Miami Heat, and he was forced to leave the game with the ailment. He hinted to the media afterwards that he is close to “shutting it down” for the season, and he had this to tell Chris Herring of the Wall Street Journal:

It seemed likely that it would get to this point for Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks. New York is 10-42 on the season, and is starting what is one of the worst lineups they’ve seen in years. The only hope the Knicks have for this season is a top lottery pick, so it may be only right for Carmelo to ‘shut it down’ for the rest of the year. If Carmelo rests, he can start recruiting free agents as well as rest his own body for next season. To add to this, his status for the All-Star game this weekend is uncertain as well.
