Bulls might add another point guard if Derrick Rose isn’t back by Monday
Derrick Rose is close to returning from his latest hamstring injury for the Chicago Bulls. Aaron Brooks and Kirk Hinrich are the Bulls’ respective fillers at the position while Rose is out. Hinrich is still banged up from a collision against the Kings the other night, so if Rose isn’t ready to go by Monday, the Bulls might sign another point guard.
From K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune:
If Derrick Rose doesn’t return Monday, sources said the Bulls have considered adding a point guard. Thibodeau favorite John Lucas III recently signed in China, but another Thibodeau staple, Mike James, is on the street. So is Chicago product Will Bynum.
These would of course insurance options for Tom Thibodeau in the ongoing event of keeping Derrick Rose healthy through the season. Brooks and Hinrich have done a fine job for Chicago, now 8-5, in Rose’s absence, but it’s also injuries to Pau Gasol and Taj Gibson that make the Bulls appear vulnerable right now.
By now Thibs is used to coaching his team without Rose in the line up, and they’ve shown how competitive and gritty they can be when the former MVP isn’t on the floor. Adding another point guard for the Bulls will be due diligence if Rose can’t get back out there this week.
