Kobe Bryant is known as one of the best scorers that the NBA has seen. He has it all whether it’s getting to the basket, shooting from the outside, handing out buckets in the mid-range game, or taking his opponent down-low and giving him work in the post. He encompassed it all but one thing that always stood out was his footwork and fundamentals, especially in his post game. A lot of that is credited to the great Hakeem Olajuwon, who Bryant worked out with back in 2009. Following Kobe’s workout, a lot of other players followed suit and went to Houston to get some pointers from Olajuwon and those players include the likes of LeBron James, Dwight Howard, and a few others. But there was one player that out stood to the Rockets great and he shared who that player was in an interview with the Sporting News:

“I’ve worked with a lot of players, but the one who really capitalized on it the most is Kobe Bryant,” the Basketball Hall of Famer said of the 6-6 retiring Lakers legend. “When I watch him play, he’ll go down in the post comfortably, naturally, and he’ll execute it perfectly.”

Those are great words coming from one of the best low-post players to ever play the game. And as a teacher, there’s nothing better than seeing your student perform those lessons to perfection. In these later days, Kobe’s game has moved out almost solely to the three-point line, even though he’ll give us a post-up every now and then. But back in his day, he gave players the business down on the block which is why he currently sits at 3rd on the all-time scoring list. We’re almost at the end of the road for Kobe Bryant as his last season is ending, but if you would like to see how the workout went between Kobe and Hakeem Olajuwon, check out the video below; maybe you could add a few of these moves to your game!
