Robert Kendrick

Class of 2018 Robert Kendrick is a 6’2″ 180lbs Combo Guard who has really started to put himself on small to mid-major Division 1 recruiting boards. The Velma Jackson High School (Jackson, Mississippi) is the definition of a utility guard. The kid seems to be able to do it all. On film, he seems to be able to score at all 3 levels at a solid rate.

He penetrates well with the mindset of setting his teammates up. His court vision really impressed me and think it would definitely translate to the Division 1 level. His three point shot is fairly consistent making him a threat immediately inside half court. With four-star guard Nick Weatherspoon at Mississippi State now, I expect Robert to have a big season in the stat book his senior year at Velma Jackson High School.

Defensively he does a good job keeping his man in front of him as well. I believe the only way is up for Robert. Don’t be surprised if schools such as Coastal Carolina, Campbell, Murray State, and Charlotte throw offers his way soon or during his senior season. I was able to catch up with Robert to see how his recruiting trail is going.

What schools do you hold offers from at this moment?

Robert: North Alabama, Delta State, Lincoln Trail College, Columbia College out of Chicago, Francis Marion, and Northwestern State

What schools are showing at least medium interest that hasn’t offered yet?

Robert: Southeastern Louisiana, Campbell, Murray State, Dayton, Randall University, Southwestern College, Austin Peay, University of Alabama-Huntsville, Charlotte, Southern Mississippi, Nichols State, Memphis, and Coastal Carolina

Any official visits coming up?

Robert: Not just yet. I haven’t set any up yet, but I know I will be taking one to Northwestern State pretty soon for sure

What do you consider your strengths and weaknesses on the court?

Robert: My weakness is I need to be more engaged for off the ball defense. I need to work on being a little more explosive. My strengths are that I play well on the ball defense, my athleticism, my scoring ability, my vision moving without the basketball, creating for my teammates, being a vocal leader, and I rebound well for a guard.

What do you do differently than anyone else on the court?

Robert: I communicate very well and block shots at a high rate for a guard. I’m always playing hard, I never take a play off.

Is there any particular style of basketball you like to play?

Robert: Yes sir. I like to get up and down the floor. I enjoy a fast pace style of game.

How was your Summer playing SR1 All-Stars?

Robert: It was really good. I think I really made a name for myself this Summer.

Who was your toughest one-on-one matchup this Summer?

Robert: It was a 4-star guard that was committed to Virginia Tech. He played with Garner Roads AAU team. He was really athletic, but we went at it and it was great competition. I can’t remember his name though.

Do you feel like you’ve gone underrated in the recruiting process? And if so why?

Robert: I believe I have gone very underrated in the recruiting process. What has helped me so far is my work ethic and that I can compete with anyone that is getting heavily recruited. I believe the main reason why my recruiting is starting to take a step up is that I played on the Adidas Silver Circuit, but every time we played in the HoopSeen Tournament we played great competition. I stepped up every time to help prove myself.

What are your goals for your senior year?

Robert: To win a state championship and be on the All-State team. I want to make the Mississippi vs Alabama game and be ranked the #1 Combo Guard in the state of Mississippi.

What player do you compare yourself to and why?

Robert: Markelle Fultz and Damian Lillard. Why because Markelle Fultz is really good at blocking shots for a guard and can score the ball well at all three levels. Damian because he creates space and separation on his jump shot and attacks the basket well.
